Another great inshore session with Nic Han – Bolgoda – July 2014

Our regular inshore fishing customer Nicholas Han decided to make another trip in early July with some friends to try out some inshore fishing for the Barramundi and Mangrove Jacks again. With perfect weather right up to a the week before their arrival we were optimistic, however just before they got in the rainy came down and the water level was high and water discoloured. We decided to concentrate our efforts on another part of the lake which we thought looked better. Day 1 :In the morning session boat Barra 2 chose to fish a bay where Dr Fred and Iskandar caught some decent mangrove jack and a nice barramundi. While boat Barra 1 with Nicholas Han fished around prawn trap and Nicholas caught a 6 lb feather back on his third cast and some mangrove jack. After a nice lunch and a bit of a break break we went out on the afternoon fishing session around 2 pm. We start to fish the mouth of small river, where the barramundi wait in ambush and Iskandar on Barra 1 caught a nice barramundi. On the tide change we fished around prawn trap and Nicholas on Barra 2 caught some nice Mangrove Jacks and Iskandar missed 3 nice Feather back, Dr Fred caught some nice Mangrove Jacks and ladyfish. Nicholas landed some more Mangrove Jacks and ladyfish.   Another view of the same fish Day 2 : The mission of the day was for Dr Fred to catch his first feather back on lure. We decided to fish around a prawn trap. After 4 misses in the morning session Dr...

Kirinda – Michael Langner Group – 25 October to 01 November 2014

Day 1: Things get off to a slow start on the first day with just a few small GT’s. Day 2: Much better. We could see schools of fusiliers close to the surface and sailfish jumping close to our popping spots. The first drift of the day saw one of the poppers taken by Wahoo but these are usually quite difficult to hook. In the second drift Michael had a nice bite from a 35kg GT close to the boat. This was landed, photographed and quickly released as there were other fish circling a bait school. Day 3: We headed out to our furthest Popping spots. The water was a greenish hue but the fish were active with 17 bites and 10 GTs landed including a nice 25kg Black GT that gave Michael a good work out. Day 4: Flat seas and good weather but the fish weren’t as active as the previous day. The day finished with 3 GTs averaging about 20kg Day 5: We started the day at our jigging spots but after an hour, a small amberjack and no decent marks on the sonar we decided to switch to popping. A good decision! In a short spell of time 4 GTs were landed and 2 were missed. We stayed in the same spot for the rest of the day and had some really good action with 26 bites, 14 fish landed and a great double hook up for Michael with a GT and a Grouper on his Cubera 150. Day 6: Heavy rain for the first two hours did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm. Continuous casting of...
